Everybody’s Trying dives into today’s biggest fitness and wellness obsessions — from cold plunges and creatine to the latest trend your algorithm swears will change your life. Hosts Lissa Bankston and Patrick Morris break down the hype and internet claims, before Dr. Kevin Sprouse weighs in with the medical perspective. Smart and funny, the show explores what’s legit, what’s nonsense, and what’s actually worth trying.

SPEAKER_01

Hi everybody and welcome to the podcast you might not have known you need, but trust me, you do. Now let's just call it like it is. A new wellness trend seems to drop into our algorithm every single day. And they all claim to be the thing that is going to change our life, give us energy, make us stronger, feel better, and live longer. Some of them even say they're gonna make us a prettier version of ourselves. But which trends work and which trends are nothing more than well-marketed junk? That's what we're here to find out.

SPEAKER_02

It's become quite difficult to be an informed consumer with these things because the wellness industry is so powerful right now because it preys on our desire to look better, to perform better, to feel younger.

SPEAKER_03

I'm maybe more excited for the things that we come across that are really good, cutting edge. My goal in high performance has always been to live on the edge of evidence.

SPEAKER_01

I'm Melissa Bankston. I'm a personal trainer and I've worked for some of the biggest sports and wellness brands out there.

SPEAKER_03

My name's Kevin Sprouse. I'm a sports medicine physician. I've worked in high performance sport, professional sport, and recreational sport for about 15 years.

SPEAKER_02

My name is Patrick Morris. I am a high performance coach. I work with professional athletes, high-level executives, endurance athletes, and really focus on the intersection of health and high performance.

SPEAKER_01

Every episode starts with Patrick and I breaking it down one trend at a time. And some are pretty good.

SPEAKER_02

My stretching is good for me. I'll do it on a red light mat. Okay, if that's good, I'll do it on a red light mat. In a sauna, you are burning fat. You're gonna improve the efficiency of your fat-burning metabolism.

SPEAKER_01

But bad news, not all of them are gonna be worth your time or your effort or even your investment.

SPEAKER_02

Snake oil salesmen have been around for a long time. The benefit is that with some of the stuff, there is science. It's just they then overstep the scientific claim.

SPEAKER_01

And that's why at the end of each episode, Dr. Sprouse joins us to set the record straight.

SPEAKER_03

There's some really interesting theory in early science here. It's actually weight inside the muscle cell. The muscle is healthier, it's better functioning.

Everybody's trying.

SPEAKER_00

Do not listen to everybody's trying if you are allergic to everybody's trying.

SPEAKER_03

Patrick, what do you want to accomplish?

SPEAKER_02

I'm trying to uh get that cortisol spike in the morning to get my morning routine right before I hit my red light, my meditation, and my morning yoga. Yeah, perfect.
