The term "Overtraining" gets thrown around a lot, often inappropriately. There seems to be a good deal of confusion around this issue and the associated physiologic processes. In this episode, we dig into the continuum of Overtraining Syndrome (OTS)...Functional Overreaching, Non-Functional Overreaching, Overtraining. What are the symptoms of each stage along this continuum? How is this diagnosed? How do you treat an athlete with OTS, and more importantly, how can an athlete avoid a state where exercise becomes detrimental?
